RESILIENCE
A society’s viability depends on its ability to withstand the risks and shocks of climate change, water scarcity, energy and food insecurity. We partner with the public and private sector to enable them to build systems and processes that are able to withstand and adapt. Our approach is multidisciplinary, cross-sectoral, and effective.

Africa is a continent in transition. Rapid and unplanned urban growth is increasing the demand for goods and services, which puts pressure on water, food, and energy resources. At the same time, large rural communities are vulnerable to extreme weather events, such as floods and droughts.

To support growth and stable economic development, countries need to transform their ability to sustainably manage their water, land and forests, and food and energy resources. Pegasys helps public, private and civil society actors develop robust, pragmatic plans for managing and conserving land, forests and catchments. We also help governments understand how climate change affects ecosystems and livelihoods in rural areas, enabling them to develop strategies to build the resilience of these communities.

We design and help establish financing mechanisms that enable rural communities to develop resilient livelihoods. This involves analysing the water-food-energy nexus in a community, designing an integrated plan for managing its resources, and exploring funding options.

We have more than two decades of experience in working with basin organisations at trans-boundary, national and local catchment level. We make the strategic links between corporate water use and the security of catchments to improve the efficiency of water use, the quality of discharges, and catchment levels. We facilitate integrated discussions between the public sector, private sector and civil society aimed at fostering partnerships with shared benefits.
